۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
