Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
