And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
