Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
