The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the books are spread, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 and the morning when it extends, 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, 20 Obeyed and worthy there of trust. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
