The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
