The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
