Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 Recall what time he ran away unto a laden ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They used to say before: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
