The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 And We see it nigh. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
