The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
