The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
