۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
