The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
