He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
