Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a high Garden. 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
