۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
