The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
