The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
