We verily created man and We know what his soul whispereth to him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 He does not utter a single word, without a ready recorder seated next to him. 18 And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!" 19 And the Trumpet shall be blown; that is the Day of the Threat. 20 Each soul will come with a driver and a witness. 21 [and will be told:] "Indeed, unmindful hast thou been of this [Day of Judgment]; but now We have lifted from thee thy veil, and sharp is thy sight today!" 22 And his comrade shall say, 'This is what I have, made ready.' 23 'Cast, you twain, into Gehenna every froward unbeliever, 24 who hinders good, exceeds the limits, is immersed in doubts, 25 “The one who appointed another God along with Allah – so both of you fling him into the severe punishment.” 26 ۞ Man's other self' will say: "O our Sustainer! It was not I that led his conscious mind into evil [nay,] but it had gone far astray [of its own accord]! 27 Allah will say: "Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat. 28 The judgment passed by Me shall not be altered; but never do I do the least wrong unto My creatures!" 29
