The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
