The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
