Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
