The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
