The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
