The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 That issued from between the loins and ribs. 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 Surely they will make a scheme, 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
