The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
