The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
