The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
