The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 The mighty, the honoured in the presence of the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 Where then are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 And what will you wish, except if Allah wills – the Lord of the Creation. 29
