The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
