The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
