He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
