The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
