In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 Nay, but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism. 2 How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape. 3 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! 4 Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” 5 And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after. 6 We never heard of it in the former faith. It is surely a fabrication. 7 “Is the Qur’an which is sent to him, among us?” In fact they are in a doubt concerning My Book; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord, the Most Mighty, the Great Bestower? 9 Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! 10 But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates. 11 Before them there have belied the people of Nuh and the 'Aad, and Fir'awn the owner of the stakes. 12 and the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Wood -- these were the confederates. 13 There was not one but belied the apostles, wherefore justified was My wrath. 14
