I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 by the retreating night, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them): 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
