He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
