The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
