The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
