And they ask thee of Zul Qarnain. Say thou: I shall recite unto you of him some mention. 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 With these he traveled 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: "I shall punish whosoever is wicked. He will then be sent back to his Lord who will inflict on him a terrible punishment. 87 But as for him who believes and does righteous deeds - he will have the ultimate good [of the life to come] as his reward; and [as for us,] we shall make binding on him [only] that which is easy to fulfill." 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 until he came to the rising-place of the sun, where he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then he followed still another path, 92 Till he reached a place between two mountains, and found this side of it a people who understood but little of what was spoken. 93 They said: O Zulqarnain! surely Gog and Magog make mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise a barrier between us and them 94 He replied, "The power that my Lord has granted me is better (than your tax). Help me with your man-power and I shall construct a barrier between you and Gog and Magog. 95 Bring me sheets of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper." 96 So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it. 97 He said: 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord's promise is come, He will make it dust. The promise of my Lord is true' 98 ۞ On the day when the barrier is demolished, We will leave human beings in chaos. We will leave them like the waves of the sea striking against each other. Then the trumpet will be sounded and We will bring them all together. 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 Whose eyes were veiled against My warning, and they could not hear. 101
