S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! 1 Nay, but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! 3 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. 6 We have not heard of this in later religion. This is naught but an invention. 7 To him of all of us has the Reminder been sent down?" They are still in doubt about My admonition; but they have not tasted My punishment yet! 8 Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure? 9 Or is it that theirs is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend by any 10 They will be one more army vanquished among the many routed hordes. 11 Before them (were many who) belied Messengers, the people of Nuh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people), 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. 13 There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: 14
