Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
