The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
