The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
