He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
