The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
