The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
