The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
