Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
