And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 (Even though) each miracle that We showed them was greater than the other. So We seized them with chastisement so that they may turn back. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: 'O my people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? What, do you not see? 51 Nay! I am better than this fellow, who is contemptible, and who can hardly speak distinctly: 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 So when he had brainwashed his people, they followed him; indeed they were a disobedient nation. 54 So when they incurred Our wrath, We exacted retribution from them, and drowned them all, 55 And We made them a precedent (as a lesson for those coming after them), and an example to later generations. 56
