The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
